“Every child in Montgomery should be reading proficiently by the end of the third grade”
Third grade is when students make the leap from “learning to read” to “reading to learn.” Across Montgomery County, one-third of our third-grade students are struggling to read.
Every child in Montgomery should be reading proficiently by the end of the third grade, but our school leaders cannot achieve this goal alone. Our community and schools must work together.
In partnership with Montgomery Public Schools and other community leaders, the Montgomery Bold Goals Coalition will work to INCREASE SCHOOL READINESS and REMOVE BARRIERS TO LEARNING by better understanding the needs of our students and families and matching those needs with existing community programs and initiatives.
We’re focused on IDENTIFYING COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMS that support and complement our school's efforts to meet the basic needs of students and families.
We’ll work on BUILDING PUBLIC AWARENESS and trust in these programs, encouraging enrollment, and helping them become more widely available.
We’ll ADVOCATE for policy solutions and strategic public investments to close critical gaps, promote equity, and tackle the root causes keeping our children from succeeding in the classroom.
And we’ll PROVIDE MEASUREMENT and track milestones that bring us closer to our Bold Goals.
